Cap Tech Classic by Candice Blickem

Richmond, VA.  First thoughts were, "The pavement".  Second thoughs, let's get the show on the road.  The womem''s race started 15 minutes late but for some reason we all were lined up 15 prior to the race???  We started at a decent pace, with some testing out their legs the first 2 laps (including myself).  I went pretty hard the 2nd lap, and as soon as we crested the hill, BOOM, Ina took off.  She was gone, and gone quick.  I think she put about 30 seconds on us in no time.  I think it was a lap or two later on the hill, Megan Esmonde took off.  I don't know exactly if she ever made it to Ina but I know she stayed out there for a while before we caught her.   It seemed no one except a couple of people didn't want to race for 2nd.  Laura and myself included.  With Laura countering after every effort anybody made, we inched away at Ina's time.  I'd have to say Ina is one bad momma.  She stayed out there about 16/24 laps, and if anyone deserved to win, it was her.  The rest of the race was pretty uneventful.   Somehow  we dropped half of the starters within the first 10 laps.  Once we absorbed Ina, I felt as though everyone was wasted from the trying course.  Most of us were probably just happy to finish and stay upright on the bumpy course.  I tried attacking with one to go through the start finish line and wacked the heck out of my wheel going around the first corner over the pothole.  Any of you racing probably know which one I'm speaking of.  I lost a ton of momentum but tried to keep it steady enough that no one would attack.  Again, they jumped me at the top.  It stayed steady all the way down and I was just hoping there were no crashes.  We came into the last couple of turns and of course you always have your Kamikazes trying to make up spots by dive bombing everyone in the corners.  Is it really worth it, it's not like by that time you are sprinting for the win.  In my opinion, I'd rather walk away unscathed.  Anywho, Ina whooped all of us (deservingly), Lara Kroepsch for 2nd spot, and Van Gilder for a 6th place.
